A couple of weeks ago the Old Iron Club of Strathclair held an old time harvesting demonstration. Sisters Laverne and Sheryl and I attended along with the famous Babushka Fur Babas, Hanna and Kensi.

The event was spectacular and it was fantastic to see a working harvest in progress using a binder to make sheaves of oats, horse drawn wagons bringing the sheaves to the threshing machine  and a couple of old threshing machines working away to thresh out the oats into an old grain wagon and spit out the straw into a wonderful straw pile.

There was plenty of old machinery to look at and the guys had no problems letting us climb up on the machinery and even help out.  Sheryl took advantage of the old equipment and scenery to get a few Babushka Fur Baba photos.

The event brought back memories. I am old enough to remember my Dad harvesting this way when I was very young. But not old enough to have actually taken part in anything besides riding on the hay wagon piled high with sheaves of grain.
